DEVELOPMENT OF TRAINING TRAINING
In 2010, Vietnam’s working age population was nearly 50 million. Vietnam has set a target to become an industrialized country by 2020. In this context, vocational training is a key factor to achieve this goal. Currently, training activities at technical training centers can only meet the needs of enterprises in Vietnam in a limited way. This training is suitable for a heavy industry that tends to narrow down to make room for the electronics or telecommunications sectors, and thus has become somewhat outdated and at the same time unable to meet expectations of foreign corporations investing in Vietnam. As a result, three quarters of enterprises must train themselves for newly recruited personnel.
Vietnam has a network of around 1,200 vocational training schools and centers, most of which are public schools, in addition to training institutions belonging to businesses. About 1.9 million students were trained by this system in 2011. Being aware of the challenge of development, the Government of Vietnam has a large investment in this area.
